47th Air Depot Group insignia

From my collection, an anniversary dinner program printed for men in the 47th Air Depot Group. The program is dated September 7, 1944.

The front cover pictures the unit's Hank Porter designed insignia. The inside pages contain the menu and some recollections of men serving with the unit, while the back cover features several notable quotes from men in the unit.

According to my database, this Disney-designed insignia was created in mid-1944. The unit served in the U.S. Army Air Forces and was a supply and repair squadron. The unit saw action in the China-Burma-India theater of operations and was stationed at Panagarh, Karachi and Ondal India.

The menu measures 6¼ by 6 inches. The menu has some paint splatters on the cover and some tears, but is only the second one I have ever seen. The image of the winged elephant wearing a turban is one of my favorites.
